Researching Companies

For Gluskin Sheff, the acquisition of relevant information from a variety of sources is a critical step in our analysis and decision-making process.

Our portfolio managers and analysts have years of familiarity with, and experience in, researching and analyzing hundreds of companies across a wide variety of industries. Research includes:

Industry Specialization
Our research analysts have specific responsibilities for understanding and following specific industry sectors and for monitoring developments within those sectors.

Company visits and field interviews
Our investment management team regularly visits company facilities, plants and offices. They often interview some combination of management, suppliers and customers to fully understand the opportunities and challenges particular to individual companies.

Financial modeling and forecasting
At Gluskin Sheff, we use our own proprietary financial models to assess enterprise values. We take a conservative approach to valuation, seeking to uncover opportunities with extremely attractive risk-reward characteristics.

Technical analysis/database screening
Gluskin Sheff uses proprietary as well as third-party databases to help identify companies that meet certain financial or performance-based criteria. These companies are then analyzed as potential investment opportunities.
