Fixed Income & Credit Alternative Strategies

Gluskin Sheff’s fixed income & credit alternative strategies provide actively managed, global exposures in a non-equity correlated asset class.

Gluskin Sheff launched its first active credit strategies focused on North American corporate bonds in 2008 amid unraveling global financial markets and historically wide credit spreads. With the acquisition of Blair Franklin Asset Management in 2014, one of Canada’s leading boutique fixed income asset management firms, we added specialized knowledge, risk management and trading capabilities in Canadian and global fixed income markets. Led by Peter Zaltz, Executive Vice-President & Head of Fixed Income, today our fixed income team includes 16 dedicated portfolio management, trading, research and risk management professionals with over 278 years of combined industry experience.

Our strategies are able to protect against interest rate risk, which in turn guards against the potential loss of capital that could occur if interest rates rise and, as a direct result, bond prices fall. In addition to interest rate risk, we actively manage the credit, currency and geographic exposures of each of our strategies. With a focus on absolute returns and low correlations to equity markets, these strategies form an important part of our clients’ asset mix.

Given our scale and our global trading and financing relationships, we provide our clients with access to global fixed income markets and strategies that are not available to most retail investors.
